Gas Ball Valves EN 331

The Albion Art40T brass ball valve, one of our most popular EN331 gas approved ball valvesThe current industry standard for gas ball valves in full is BS EN 331:1998 which has updates and changes to 2011. Prior to this standard, gas ball valves were tested and certified by British Gas to BS5494:1978 although this standard only actually covered valves up to and including 25mm (1”) nominal bore, whereas the EN 331 standard covers approved gas ball valves up to and including 50mm (2”) nominal bore.

Earlier standards for gas ball valves required them to be threaded to BS21 taper female, this has since been relaxed and ISO parallel threads are now permitted for EN 331 certification but for a long time after the relaxed standards were introduced to conform to Europe-wide approval many of our customers still requested taper threaded valves for gas installations and it is only since November 2014 that we changed our stock to the parallel threaded version when customer preferences changed.

Please note a BSPT taper male thread is required to complete a gas installation using an EN 331 gas ball valve, whether this comes via a threaded tube or pipe fitting such as black malleable iron fittings to BS EN 10242:1995 which we also carry in stock. To order your requirements for EN 331 gas ball valves please follow the highlighted link to our Art40P/Art40T brass ball valves which are rated to 40 bar and available from stock in 8mm (1/4”) to 50mm (2”) nominal bore, may we also point out that these same valves are WRAS approved for potable (drinking) water installations.

We look forward to servicing all your valve and pipeline requirements now and in the future. For pipe and fittings for gas installations, we can offer malleable iron fittings BS EN 10242:1995, steel tube to BS EN 10255:2004 and a full range of PCC M-Press stainless steel gas and copper gas press fittings.
