Steel Pipe Fittings BS EN 10241

A low pressure steam system using red heavy steel tube to EN 10255 and BS EN 10241 steel fittingsSteel pipe fittings BS EN 10241 are one of the most robust threaded fittings of their type available on the UK market and where our customer base is concerned they are primarily used on low-pressure steam systems. These 25 bar rated steel pipe fittings BS EN 10241 are ideal for steam systems running at 10 bar or less due to the strength and proven longevity of the product when fitted using red heavy tube BS EN 10255.

Our customer base for good reason have always been encouraged to use this type of fitting on process steam systems, the reason behind this thinking is the fact that despite good quality malleable iron fittings BS EN 10242 being rated for low-pressure steam systems we have found that steel pipe fittings BS EN 10241 last a great deal longer, we believe this is due to the improved tensile strength of steel fittings over their malleable iron cousins.

A selection of black wrought iron (mild steel) threaded pipe fittings to the BS EN 10241 standardI hear the question from those reading this that do use malleable iron pipe fittings on steam and condense systems, “why should I change something we’ve done for years”. Our answer would be to trust your suppliers and contractors where this is concerned and take it from us that in the long term the use of steel pipe fittings BS EN 10241 is a better option, especially if your steam system suffers from any water hammer issues, steel pipe fittings and heavy tube will do a better job than you realise.

What you have to realise is when installing new steam pipe and fittings is the extra cost associated with steel pipe fittings BS EN 10241 is nothing compared to the cost of returning to the installation to repeat the process a great deal sooner than you’d expect too and the downtime and loss of production experienced in the meantime. We recommend steel pipe fittings BS EN 10241 for low-pressure steam systems in conjunction with red heavy tube BS EN 10255 and for completing threaded joints, Rocol Steamseal and of course hemp spools.
